Mimas is a satellite of Saturn, the sixth planet in the Sol system, and as such under Federation jurisdiction and protection. It is noteworthy for a large impact crater named "Herschel".
The moon is home to an emergency evacuation station for the Academy Flight Range in orbit of Saturn. (TNG: "The First Duty")
