Mildew is a term which refers to the fungus or bacteria building up on a plant.

In 2371, Neelix told Commander Chakotay and Lieutenant Joseph Carey that after boiling a number of leola roots the crew of the USS Voyager found on an unnamed planet in the Delta Quadrant, they likely would not even notice the mildew on it. (VOY: "State of Flux")
