Michael "Mike" F. Echols is an actor who served as stand-in for Michael Dorn throughout the last two years on Star Trek: The Next Generation. He also worked as stand-in for guest actors such as Tony Todd in the fifth season episode "Redemption II" and Tony Jay in the episode "Cost of Living". In addition, Echols appeared as a civilian in Ten Forward in the fifth season episode "Disaster". For this episode he filmed his scenes on Thursday 22 August 1991 on Paramount Stage 8. He was also scheduled to appear as a civilian in the episode "The Game" but was not part of the final episode. He was again seen in Ten Forward in the episode "A Matter of Time" for which he filmed his scenes on Thursday 3 October 1991 on Paramount Stage 8.

Echols appeared as a background actor in the thriller Body of Influence (1993), as an orderly in the comedy Guarding Tess (1994, with David Graf), and as a cop in the action film A Low Down Dirty Shame (1994, with Salli Elise Richardson and Gregory Sierra). He was also featured as a campus security officer in the 1993 Beverly Hills, 90210 episode "Emily" and was a regular background performer on the long-running television series NYPD Blue (1997-2005), where he appeared as Officer Lowen alongside regulars Gordon Clapp, Sharon Lawrence, and Michael Buchman Silver.
