Michael Cavanaugh (born 21 November 1942; age 71) is an actor from New York City, New York, who, in 1990, appeared on Star Trek: The Next Generation, playing Captain Robert DeSoto in the third season episode "Tin Man".
Other television series in which he has appeared include CHiPs (1981, with Michael Dorn), T.J. Hooker (1983, starring William Shatner, James Darren and Richard Herd), The A-Team (1984, starring Dwight Schultz, Melinda Culea, William Lucking, and Lance LeGault), L.A. Law (1989, with Corbin Bernsen and Larry Drake), Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman (1993, starring Teri Hatcher), NYPD Blue (1996, with Sharon Lawrence and Gordon Clapp), Carnivàle (2003, with Adrienne Barbeau, Clancy Brown, John Fleck, and John Savage), and Monk (with Ryan Bollman). He also had a recurring role as "Joseph O'Laughlin" on the hit FOX-TV series 24, which featured Penny Johnson, and starred as an obsessed government agent seeking an alien on Earth in the science fiction series Starman.
