The Merced-class starship was a type of vessel in service with Starfleet during the 24th century. (TNG: "Chain Of Command, Part I")
In 2364, Data described the class, specifically the USS Trieste, as "too small" and "too slow" to intercept a Galaxy-class starship. (TNG: "11001001")

Background information[]
The name of this class was originally derived from an okudagram described as a "starship mission status" that was displayed in the observation lounge starting around TNG Season 6 and was originally described in the Star Trek Encyclopedia (1st ed., p. 322).
During one of the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine kitbash rounds, a model of the Merced class was constructed. Several Polaroids(X) , provided by Dan Curry to the Flare Sci-Fi Forums, were taken of the ship. The model however did not appear in any episode.
