Deletion rationale Edit

  • There is no canon basis for this article's existence. --Defiant 08:59, July 22, 2011 (UTC)

Discussion Edit

  • The article states that Mitchell had been reading a specific part of the book that the quote came from. I'm not sure where that information comes from right now, but if a specific part of the book was cited or seen in canon(combined with mentioning the author), I think it would be better to have the article at this title than at an Unnamed Book page or deleting this. If that specific section wasn't mentioned, or there is some other reason to not have this article, then it should be merged with Benedict de Spinoza or whatever that page is renamed to.--31dot 09:20, July 22, 2011 (UTC)
    • Comment: The quoted text is not said in the episode. The text on the screen is very small and not legible to my eyes. However, in the Starfleet Access commentary for the episode "Where No Man Has Gone Before", Michael Okuda talks about having wanted to include pages from the book on the screen for remastered TOS, which suggests that they weren't already on the screen. I suppose it's possible that someone could have deciphered the tiny, tiny text that is displayed on the screen, but (as far as I can see) there's no evidence if this, either. --Defiant 09:37, July 22, 2011 (UTC)
If that's the case, then the article should be merged with the author, not simply deleted.--31dot 09:39, July 22, 2011 (UTC)
    • Keep, I don't get why this is to be deleted. Several pages of the book are seen on screen, thanks to Blu-ray screenshots, the text is even legible. (Take a look here). The name of the book "The Ethics Part IV" is written on top of every page seen on the sickbay viewer. --Jörg 09:42, July 22, 2011 (UTC)
Keep; as the title can be identified.--31dot 09:45, July 22, 2011 (UTC)

Agreed. My mistake; I was unaware it appears in a different scene from the one in which Spinoza is mentioned. As an aside, perhaps we should consider moving the page to "The Ethics", as the book is identified on screen(?) --Defiant 09:48, July 22, 2011 (UTC)

Admin resolution Edit

  • Resolved, clearer citation found.--31dot 09:49, July 22, 2011 (UTC)
