Melona IV was the fourth planet in the Melona system.

In 2368, the USS Enterprise-D delivered Federation colonists and supplies to the planet. Several Enterprise-D crewmembers, including Commander Riker, Doctor Beverly Crusher, and Lieutenant Commander Data, assisted in establishing the Melona colony.

Later that year, Melona IV was stripped of all life by the Crystalline Entity, which also claimed the lives of two colonists, one of them being civilian engineer Carmen Davila. The remainder of the colonists and the Enterprise-D personnel managed to survive by hiding in nearby caves rich with kelbonite and fistrium. (TNG: "Silicon Avatar")

According to the script, the pronunciation for Melona was "mel-OWN-uh". [1]
The surface scenes were filmed on location at the Golden Oak Ranch on Wednesday 7 August 1991.
According to the Star Trek: Star Charts ("United Federation of Planets I"), Melona IV was listed as a member planet of the Federation in 2378.
