The master subsurface pump was the main water pump used in the terraforming of Velara III. Geordi La Forge called the pump "very impressive" while he and Data were examining its LCARS control panel. The two used the diagram to ascertain that the water table on the planet was what Data called a "thin ribbon between the sandy surface layer and the rocks below". Indeed, the LCARS further demonstrated that the water table had such a precise and regular depth that the hydraulic probes would need to be controlled with "extreme precision". (TNG: "Home Soil")
