The location of Marcos XII on "The Explored Galaxy" wall chart
Marcos XII was the twelfth planet in the Marcos system. The location of this planet was depicted on a Federation star chart in 2293. (TOS: "And the Children Shall Lead"; Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country)
This planet was colonized by the Federation prior to 2268, and had a population of millions. It was the first planet which the evil angel-being Gorgan decided to conquer once he was set loose. Gorgan used the children of the Starnes Exploration Party to capture the Constitution-class starship USS Enterprise and was using the ship to go to there. Tommy Starnes had relatives on Marcos XII. (TOS: "And the Children Shall Lead")
"The Explored Galaxy" wall chart was also seen in several Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episodes set in the 24th century, from the year 2364 to 2370. These were TNG: "Conspiracy", "The Measure Of A Man", "The Emissary", "The Mind's Eye", "The Game", and DS9: "In the Hands of the Prophets", "Cardassians".
According to the Star Trek: Star Charts ("United Federation of Planets I"), Marcos XII was listed as a member planet of the Federation in 2378.
