Maintenance hatch 70 failure

Rutherford encounters an access protocol failure at Maintenance Hatch 70.

A maintenance hatch was a type of door that provided access to restricted areas, such as those used to perform maintenance on a starship's systems.

During a rage virus outbreak aboard the USS Cerritos in 2380, Ensigns Sam Rutherford and Barnes sought shelter behind Maintenance Hatch 70 when the door malfunctioned and delayed unlocking instead of recognizing their combadges. Rutherford was able to get it open, only to find that the red alert had overridden the hatch's access protocols, despite a failure analysis estimating the reliability of the doors at "1 out of 4.69 repeating." Rutherford would later intend to run a level 2 diagnostic, and told Ensign D'Vana Tendi that Barnes' disinterest in why the door had malfunctioned was the main reason he was not planning to date Barnes again. After Rutherford's cybernetic implant was ripped out, he lost his memory of the incident, and considered dating Barnes again. Tendi reminded Rutherford of the failure of Maintenance Hatch 70 and Barnes' disinterest in why it malfunctioned, but Rutherford no longer seemed to mind. (LD: "Strange Energies")

In 2381, Ensign Tendi feared she being kicked off the Cerritos and visited some of her favorite spots on the ship, including maintenance hatch 788. Tendi described the hatch fondly as "always warm to the touch," before accidentally burning her hand on it. (LD: "First First Contact")
