Lya Station Alpha was a Federation Spacedock-type space station orbiting a planet in the Alpha Quadrant, near Merak, Kressari, Tagra, and Capella. It had been in service with Starfleet since at least the mid-23rd century. (SNW: "Strange New Worlds")

Named on a Federation star chart (2259)

In 2259, the location of this space station was labeled on a stellar cartography chart that was seen on the USS Enterprise's ready room viewscreen. (SNW: "Strange New Worlds", "Children of the Comet", "Spock Amok")

In 2368, the USS Enterprise-D traveled to Lya Station Alpha with survivors from the attack on the Solarion IV colony. Ensign Ro Laren came aboard the Enterprise at this station, and Captain Jean-Luc Picard met with Admiral Kennelly there regarding suspected Bajoran terrorist activity. (TNG: "Ensign Ro")

The station's location was labeled in a Federation star chart that was in Fleet Admiral Kirsten Clancy's office at Starfleet Headquarters in 2399 and on the bridge of the USS Titan-A in 2401. Lya Station Alpha was in or near to Federation space. (PIC: "Maps and Legends", "The Next Generation", "Disengage")

The exterior of Lya Station Alpha was a reuse of footage of Starbase 74 from "11001001", which in turn was reuse of footage of the Spacedock One from Star Trek III: The Search for Spock.
Lya Station Alpha was identified by the Star Trek Encyclopedia (4th ed., vol. 1, p. 491) as a Federation starbase.
According to the Star Trek: Star Charts (p. 47) and the Stellar Cartography: The Starfleet Reference Library ("Federation Historical Highlights, 2161-2385"), Lya Station Alpha was located in the Lya system. As such, it might be part of the starbase known to be associated with Lya III.
