Lungworms was an infectious disease that was caused mainly by staying in space for long periods of time. Certain people and species are more or less vulnerable to getting lungworms. For example, a [[Vulcan]] would be less likely to get it than a human, because they have a much stronger immune system. No recorded species is completely immune to lungworms.
