Los Angeles, or simply LA, was a port city on the coast of the Pacific Ocean in the United States of America. (TOS: "The Cage")
In 1996, the headquarters of Chronowerx Industries was located in Los Angeles. Tuvok commented that the thermal and ultraviolet radiation in California, where LA was located, were at hazardous levels.
In 2047, the Hermosa Earthquake caused the region around the city to sink under two hundred meters of water, creating one of the world's largest coral reefs, home to thousands of marine species. (VOY: "Future's End", "Future's End, Part II")
It is unclear how much of Los Angeles was destroyed in the earthquake – Janeway may have been referring to the coastal cities only. But with an elevation of 71 meters or 233 feet in downtown LA alone, a cataclysmic descent of 656 feet (200 meters) below sea level does not bode well for the greater Los Angeles area. Certainly, the city has not been mentioned as existing in the 24th century.
This city was identified on a political map of the North Pacific region. This map was accessed from the USS Enterprise library computer by the Talosians in 2254.
