Liquidators were the feared agents of the Ferengi Commerce Authority (or FCA). Fear of the liquidators was grounded in potential profit loss for any Ferengi who earned their ire. Liquidators represented the power of the FCA and were empowered to instill bans on Ferengi who broke contracts with other Ferengi. These bans could successfully stop all other traditional Ferengi from dealing with the banned individual and that individual's businesses. The result was a massive loss of profit and opportunity, quite an insult to a Ferengi, as not showing profit not only affected a Ferengi in his life, but also decided where they would end up in their afterlife according to Ferengi religion.
