Biology, sometimes referred to as bioscience or the life sciences, is the scientific study of living organisms (or lifeforms) and their vital processes. Individuals who study biology are referred to as biologists. The study of alien lifeforms is called exobiology.
Charles Tucker III had a Vulcan scientist named Mister Velik as his 10th grade biology teacher, who came to teach about life on other worlds. Tucker later recalled that Velik used to often say, "challenge your preconceptions or they'll challenge you." (ENT: "Strange New World") Tucker later took an honors biology course, where he recalled learning that an individual's hair and nails keep growing for quite a while after one dies. (ENT: "Shuttlepod One")
