Lester D. Gobruegge worked as Set Designer on Star Trek: First Contact in 1996. His name was also listed on the dedication plaque of the USS Enterprise-E in the film.

Gobruegge started to work as an assistant art director on The Bill Cosby Show during its last season in 1970/1971 and on the comedy The Big Bus (1976). His work as art director includes the television drama Look What's Happened to Rosemary's Baby (1976, with cinematography by John A. Alonzo), the drama series Family (1976-1977, starring Gary Frank), the drama In the Matter of Karen Ann Quinlan (1977, with Brian Keith), The Muppet Movie (1979), the television series CHiPs (1979-1980) and Dallas (1981-1982), John Carpenter's action comedy Big Trouble in Little China (1986, with Kim Cattrall), and the war drama A Time of Destiny (1988).

As Set Designer he worked on Joe Dante's science fiction adventure Explorers (1985), the crime comedy Clue (1985, with Christopher Lloyd and Michael McKean), the comedy sequel The Naked Gun 2½: The Smell of Fear (1991), the action thriller Volcano (1997, with art director Donald B. Woodruff), the comedy My Giant (1998), and the comedy Bowfinger (1999).
