The lavafly was an insect native to the Talaxian moon of Rinax.

Neelix claimed in 2373 that some of the most vicious lavaflies lived in the Rinax marshlands, where they reached lengths of six centimeters. Insect repellant was thus a booming business. (VOY: "Macrocosm")
