Industrial laser cannon (2155)

A laser cannon is a large laser device, used as a weapon aboard spacecraft and other installations. It is somewhat primitive and is quite simply a large, high-energy laser projector.

The Federation and many other cultures in the Alpha and Beta Quadrants seemed to have abandoned most laser technology for phasers in the mid-23rd century.

Starfleet's surface-deployable laser cannons illustrate the late maturity of the technology. Showing a clear design lineage, late-model Starfleet cannons differed little in structure and scale from industrial cannons used in mining operations as far back as 2155. The only significant difference appears in the amount of raw power available. Starfleet's cannons of their time were able to draw on power microwaved from an orbiting starship. By the 24th century, a few races still used laser cannons, including:
