A laptop computer, also known simply as a laptop, was a type of portable computer used in the 20th century.

Laptop computers were invented by the Chronowerx Industries corporation in the 20th century. Unknown to the general public at the time, the technology they were based on came from a 29th century timeship, the Aeon. That ship had been stolen by Chronowerx's founder, Henry Starling, in 1967.

Starling cited laptops as one technology which, without him, would not have been invented. (VOY: "Future's End, Part II")

Shannon O'Donnell owned a laptop in the year 2000. Her and Jason Janeway used it to send e-mail and play video games, such as Matrix of Doom. (VOY: "11:59")
