Kyushu was one of the four major islands of Japan. (TOS: "The Cage")
This city was identified on a political map of the North Pacific region. This map was accessed from the USS Enterprise library computer by the Talosians in 2254.
In the 24th century, the New Orleans-class starship USS Kyushu was named in honor of this island. (TNG: "The Best of Both Worlds, Part II")
