Kurland was a Human male aboard the USS Enterprise-D in 2364.

He had one son, Jake Kurland. When Jake tried to leave the Enterprise-D with a shuttlecraft this year he asked Captain Picard to tell his father he's sorry but he cannot stay aboard the ship. Picard answered he should bring back the shuttle and tell this his father himself. (TNG: "Coming of Age")
