Kostolain was a planet that was home to a native species. In 2368, this planet was home to the Conference of Judges. Campio served as third minister to the Conference on Kostolain during the time he was to be married to Lwaxana Troi.

The culture of Kostolain was reserved and exceptionally formal. Strict protocol was always followed and, in many cases, enforced by the presence of a Protocol Master. (TNG: "Cost of Living")

According to the Star Trek: Star Charts ("United Federation of Planets IV"), the planet Kostolain was located in the Kostolain system. The Kostolain system was located in or near Federation space, in the Beta Quadrant. This system was a binary star system. Primary was a Class G star with a magnitude of +5, which was the same brightness as Sol. Secondary was a Class K star.
