Template:Realworld Kim Manners (13 January 1951 – 25 January 2009; age 58) was an American director and Emmy Award-nominated producer who directed the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode "When The Bough Breaks". He was perhaps best known for directing and producing another popular science fiction series, The X-Files.

Prior to directing his TNG episode, Manners was a director and production manager on the action drama series Charlie's Angels. The Star Trek performers he directed on this series included Darleen Carr, Joanna Cassidy, Gary Lockwood, Barbara Luna, and Branscombe Richmond. He later directed several episodes of the action series Hardcastle and McCormick, which starred Brian Keith and Daniel Hugh Kelly in the lead roles.

The many other television series Manners has directed include Matt Houston, Simon & Simon, 21 Jump Street, Baywatch, The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr., and M.A.N.T.I.S.. Among the performers he worked with on these shows were Sharon Acker, Chad Allen, Karen Austin, Diedrich Bader, Leslie Bevis, Dennis Cockrum, Denise Crosby, Bruce Gray, Richard Herd, Robert Hooks, Clyde Kusatsu, Galyn Gorg, Gary Graham, Richard Lynch, Richard McGonagle, Byron Morrow, Robert Picardo, Jeremy Roberts, Andrew Robinson, Joseph Ruskin, James Sloyan, Kurtwood Smith, Louise Sorel, George Takei, Kenneth Tigar, Tony Todd, Ned Vaughn, Ray Walston, Tracey Walter, Morgan Woodward, and Keone Young.

Manners was a director and producer on The X-Files for seven years, from 1995 through 2002. He joined the series during its second season on the recommendation of Rob Bowman, who was already working on the show. [1] Manners started as producer and ultimately worked his way up to co-executive producer. Manners, Bowman, and the other producers of The X-Files received four Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Drama Series. Manners directed 52 episodes of The X-Files, including the series finale.

In 2005, Manners became a director and co-executive producer on the television series Supernatural. He continued working on this series until his death from cancer on 25 January 2009. [2] His death was announced on the [news:alt.obituaries alt.obituaries] newsgroup by actor Jim Beaver, who worked with Manners on an episode of The X-Files and multiple episodes of Supernatural. [3]

Manners was the brother of Kelly A. Manners, who was a Unit Production Manager on The Next Generation during its first season.
