Born and raised in Santa Monica by parents Geraldine and Cornelius, with four older siblings, by the 1980s Flanagan was living in Venice, California, running her own small videotaping company with a partner. Strictly Video produced tapes for weddings, birthdays, Bar Mitzvahs, and industrials.

In the 1990s Flanagan migrated to cable and network television production, working for Allen Funt of Candid Camera.

Writing and producing credits followed, for nonfiction programming including The Civil War Journal and A&E's Biography. The ex-actress has written and produced shows and segments for all major networks.

In 1995 Kellie married landscape architect and former international rugby star Dave Briley. They have one daughter, Clara Briley, born in 1998. The Brileys live in California's gold country near Yosemite National Park, with their chocolate lab Jack, cats, lizards and chickens. Flanagan was the managing editor of the successful hyper-local news website, Sierra News Online and hosted a radio segment for KRYZ Mariposa public radio. Flanagan is currently a staff writer for California's oldest continuously published weekly newspaper, the Mariposa Gazette.

In 2017, Flanagan appeared at The Hollywood Show, meeting fans and signing autographs for the first time as an adult. In 2018 she was invited to attend Creation Las Vegas, thanks to her role over 50 years ago as Blonde Girl in Star Trek TOS season 1, "Miri," when she was six years old.
