The Kataan star system was a solar system located in the Silarian sector that contained six planets, all of which were uninhabited after the sun of the star system went nova during the 14th century.

One of the planets, Kataan, was home to a civilization that was destroyed when the sun went nova. All that remains of the civilization were a probe and the memories of one inhabitant of a small village on the planet, Kamin, kept in Captain Jean-Luc Picard's mind.

The system remained unmapped by the Federation into the 24th century. (TNG: "The Inner Light")
