Kaferian apples are a type of apple. A typical Kaferian apple resembles a pomegranate, has dark seeds inside and grows on a tree.
A cross section of a Kaferian apple was featured on the cover of the Handbook of Exobiology, used by Elizabeth Cutler in 2151. (ENT: "Strange New World")
Kaferian apples were the first form of food created by Gary Mitchell after gaining psionic powers in 2265. (TOS: "Where No Man Has Gone Before")
In the script of "Where No Man Has Gone Before", Kaferian apples are described as "huge red fruit" and the tree on which they grow is referred to as "a low, odd-shaped tree."
According to a non-canon source, The Worlds of the Federation, the Kaferian apple originates on Tau Ceti III (as does a Kaferian insectoid civilization).
While this was never seen on-screen(citation needed • edit), the cover of the Handbook of Exobiology featured Kafarian apples. This can be seen on the homepage of Geoffrey Mandel.
