John Short is the actor who played the archaeologist Drake in the Star Trek: Enterprise second season episode "Regeneration". He filmed his scenes for this episode in early March 2003. His arctic gear costume from this episode was later sold off on the It's A Wrap! sale and auction on eBay. [1]

Short began his television career in 1985 with appearances on Trapper John, M.D. (on which Madge Sinclair was a regular) and Newhart. By the following year, he was cast as a regular on a sitcom called The Cavanaughs, although it only lasted for one season. This was followed with guest appearances on St. Elsewhere (working with series regulars Ed Begley, Jr., Ronny Cox, Norman Lloyd, France Nuyen, Jennifer Savidge, and Jane Wyatt), Brooklyn Bridge (on which Armin Shimerman had a role), JAG (in an episode with Mark Rolston), Providence (starring Concetta Tomei), The District (with Roger Aaron Brown), Angel (in an episode with Daniel Dae Kim), and ER (with Leland Orser). In 2005, he worked with René Auberjonois and William Shatner in an episode of Boston Legal which also guest-starred Henry Gibson and Holmes R. Osborne. Short has also appeared in episodes of Coach, The Practice, and The West Wing, among other series.

He has numerous feature film credits to his name, beginning with a supporting role in Maximum Overdrive (1986, co-starring Leon Rippy. This was followed with roles in such films as A Fine Mess (1986, with James Cromwell, Darryl Henriques, Keye Luke, and Paul Sorvino), Gross Anatomy (1989, with Gordon Clapp and Steven Culp), Welcome Home, Roxy Carmichael (1990, with Heidi Swedberg), Diggstown (1992, with Michael McGrady, Jeremy Roberts, and George D. Wallace), the comedy The Associate (1996, starring Whoopi Goldberg and Bebe Neuwirth), and Christmas with the Kranks (2004, also featuring David L. Lander and working with "Regeneration" co-star Bonita Friedericy).

In 1995, he appeared in the FMV video game Silent Steel (with Brian McNamara and Jim Metzler). He has also appeared in Apollo 13 (1995, with David Andrews, Brett Cullen, Googy Gress, Max Grodénchik, Clint Howard, Brian Markinson, Andy Milder, and Steve Rankin), Ransom (1996), and How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000, with Clint Howard).

In the more recent years, Short focused on teaching and taught acting for the camera and beginning acting at Loyola Marymount University. Since 2006, he has been teaching as associate professor at the California State University in Fullerton. [2]
