Johann Gutenberg was a human of German descent, credited with the invention of the printing press in the 15th century. On 23 February 1455 he started mass-production of the Gutenberg Bible, the first mass-produced book on Earth.

In 2269, during a visit to Holberg 917G, Captain Kirk of the Federation starship USS Enterprise and First Officer Spock discovered a Gutenberg Bible in the large art collection of the immortal Flint. (TOS: "Requiem for Methuselah")
