Japan was a group of islands off the eastern coast of the Asian continent, and a country on Earth. The capital of Japan was Tokyo. It was also the home of the Japanese people.
The islands of Japan had no land borders with any other nation, but were located across a narrow channel from the peninsula of Korea. (TOS: "The Cage")
History
Japan entered the Second World War with an attack on the main naval installation of the United States of America at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, on December 7th, 1941. (TNG: "The Enemy"; DS9: "Far Beyond the Stars")
After meeting her in 2024, Chris Brynner thought that Jadzia Dax's Trill markings were tattoos from Japan. (DS9: "Past Tense, Part I")
A 20th century-era map of the northern Pacific Ocean region was stored in the USS Enterprise library computer in 2254. The map depicted Japan, the east coast of Asia's USSR nation and Alaska on the west coast of North America.
