James Schmerer (born 14 June 1938; age 73) is an American television writer and producer. Schmerer wrote the Star Trek: The Animated Series episode "The Survivor".

James Schmerer wrote or co-wrote several episodes of the television show MacGyver, including the season one episode "Hellfire" in which Nana Visitor was a guest star.
