James L. Conway (born 27 October 1950; age 62) is a New York-born director of many Star Trek episodes in every series except the original. Conway is a fan of the original Star Trek series. He was chosen to direct his first TNG episode, "Justice" soon after he completed an episode of MacGyver. During his career, Conway directed everything from Sunn Classics' pseudo-documentaries to Westerns, horrors and industrial films. (Star Trek: The Next Generation Companion, p. 40) Conway was interviewed by Pat Jankiewicz for the article "James L. Conway - Arbiter of Justice", published in The Official Star Trek: The Next Generation Magazine Vol. 19, pp. 48-52.
During a 2012 interview with the official Star Trek website, Conway stated that he was in the running, alongside Jonathan Frakes, to direct Star Trek: First Contact. He almost got the job to direct, but Patrick Stewart chose Frakes over Conway. [1]
