The Interstate was a system of roads covering the USA in the early 21st century.

An interstate ran close to Portage Creek, Indiana. A local told Shannon O'Donnel on December 27, 2000 to go back to the Interstate and look for exit nine, if she needed gas, food and lodging.

Later, after leaving the town, she noted in her audio journal on December 31st that she had ninety-five miles of interstate before she had to decide whether to go east or south. According to her guidebook, a recreation of Leonardo da Vinci's "The Last Supper" in corn was not that far away.

After stopping for gasoline and buying herself a bag of chocolate chip cookies as a treat (her ritual for getting back on the highway), she turned and headed back for Alexandria Books, as the cookies didn't taste the same without Henry Janeway. (VOY: "11:59")
