Xindi-Insectoid councilor

Xindi-Insectoid

Insectoids were sentient, insect-like species. (TNG: "The Big Goodbye") There were sometimes recognized, with prejudice, as "bug aliens". (LD: "Veritas")

Long before the rise of most ancient civilizations, highly-advanced insect-like beings traveled the stars aboard starships, as with in one case, arriving in the vicinity of Questar M-17 over three hundred million year before the 23rd century.

In 2269, said vessel was discovered by the USS Enterprise, who upon investigation discovered many the ship's designs and construction techniques to be comparable to "natural insect designs of Earth". These features included hexagonal windows, designed as individual cells precisely shaped like the honeycombs of bees, and as well, the metal used in the ship's construction was drawn into filaments, a technique much like that used by a spider when spinning a web. (TAS: "Beyond the Farthest Star")

In 2153, the Xindi-Insectoids were among the first sentient insectoid species encountered by a Starfleet vessel, and were often colloquially referred to as "Insectoids." (ENT: "The Xindi")

The Jarada were a reclusive insect-like species which were first encountered by the Federation during early 24th century. Their language contained many nuances Captain Jean-Luc Picard found hard to grasp, leading Counselor Deanna Troi to point out, both, that the English language had its own nuances, and that they were, after all, dealing with "an insect mind." (TNG: "The Big Goodbye")

Though unseen on screen, the script describes the Jarada as "wasp-like: black and yellow, with pointed insectile features and waving black antennae."
