ON meeting the captain, Archer propsed that the Enterprise would give the Illyrians trellium-D which would protect them from the anomalies, and the Illyrians would give the Enterprise its warp core. In order to stop the Xindi superweapon, the Enterprise needed a new coil or it could not arrive on time to stop the launch of the weapon. The Illyrian Captain refused, since it would take them years to get to their home world, and without the warp coil, they would not have enough resources to survive.

An Illyrian captain.

The Illyrians are a humanoid species native to the planet Illyria in the Delphic Expanse.

The Earth Starfleet vessel Enterprise was assisted in its repair efforts by an Illyrian vessel that had been disabled by an anomaly field in 2154. Enterprise helped the Illyrians in turn. They were unwilling, however, to part with their warp coil because not having it would mean a three-year journey home. Jonathan Archer and the MACOs boarded the Illyrian craft and stole their warp coil. (ENT: "Damage")
