The Idran system is a star system less than five light-years away from the terminus of the Bajoran wormhole in the Gamma Quadrant, which is approximately 70,000 light-years from Bajor. It is a ternary system consisting of a central supergiant star and twin spectral class O-type companions. There are no M-class planets in the Idran system.

The Federation obtained its first data of this star system with the 22nd century interstellar Quadros-1 probe. A hydrogen-alpha spectral analysis was among the scans performed on the system. This analysis was later used to identify the system when the first manned Starfleet starship entered the Gamma Quadrant. (DS9 "Emissary")
