Iconian script

The Iconian language family consisted of three languages: Dewan, Dinasian, and Iccobar. All three were descended from the language of the ancient Iconians, and shared certain similarities in simple words. In 2365, Lieutenant Commander Data derived a rudimentary translation of original Iconian from a comparing words such as "mother", "father", "food", "death", "child", "home", "tribe", "pain", "love", "mine", "yours", and "ours", in those three languages.

The following examples of Iconian were from the computer in a gateway control station on Iconia:

"Kandar se, kandar ere, kandar more, kandar sete, kandar ne, kandar qetar, kandar jet, kandar piqe..."

This line was a countdown of some sort for an Iconian probe launch, spoken before the facility was destroyed. The exact translation is not known. (TNG: "Contagion")

Lokirrim script

The Zibalian language was written in almost identical characters and in a similar fashion to Iconian. This suggests either the Zibalian spoken and written language was derived from Iconian, or their spoken language developed separately but their written language was borrowed from the Iconians. The Lokirrim script may have also been derived from Iconian. However, it changed considerably, suggesting it evolved away from Iconian.

According to Star Trek: Star Charts, Dewa, Iccobar, and Dinasia were the names of star systems.

  • Dewa was located in or near Romulan space. The primary was a Class M star. It had a magnitude of +9.
  • Iccobar was located in or near Federation space. This was a binary star. Primary was a Class G star. It had a magnitude of +5, which was the same brightness as Sol. Its stellar companion was a Class M star.
  • Dinasia was located in or near Federation space. The primary was a Class K star. It had a magnitude of +9. This system was quarantined. (page 63)
