Hypertension is a medical condition in which the the blood pressure in the arteries is elevated causing the heart to work faster and harder.

When Lieutenant Commander Data asked Doctor Beverly Crusher about the medical condition of his mother Juliana Tainer, Crusher told him that she has a slight hypertension which is completely normal for a woman of her age. (TNG: "Inheritance")
