The Huron-type is a preliminary designation for a class of freighter starship used by the Federation Starfleet in the 23rd century. This class of vessel possessed large cargo holds, and could be maintained by a crew of fewer than a dozen.
One vessel of this type was the USS Huron (NCC-F1913). (TAS: "The Pirates of Orion")
Background
No canonical class name was devised for this class by any of the creative staff, although unofficial blueprints, such as the early 1980s Federation Reference Series mention the name Independence-class.
One interesting thing about this vessel is the letter-prefix registry number NCC-F1913. Presumably this registry's "F" prefix could indicate it is a freighter.
