Hives, also known as urticaria, was a skin condition which was usually caused by an allergic reaction.

When Tom Paris was a cadet at Starfleet Academy, he dated a woman named Susie Crabtree. She later ended the relationship. Afterward, Paris broke out in hives and walked around in a daze for the rest of the year. (VOY: "Lifesigns")
