Lieutenant Helen Johannson was a Starfleet officer in the 23rd century, and mutual friends with Miss Piper, Commodore Mendez's assistant at Starbase 11, and James T. Kirk, captain of the USS Enterprise.

Lieutenant Johannson gave Miss Piper a sufficiently detailed description of Captain Kirk that she recognized him immediately upon his arrival at Starbase 11 in 2267. When Piper mentioned this to Kirk, he became visibly nervous as to how much detail Johannson had gone into, although Piper assured him that "she merely mentioned she knew you." (TOS: "The Menagerie, Part I")
