The Hawking

The shuttlecraft Hawking (NCC-1701-D/15) was assigned to the USS Enterprise-D. It was the second shuttle named for Stephen Hawking aboard the Enterprise.

In 2371, the Hawking rescued Captain Jean-Luc Picard from a hilltop on Veridian III following the defeat of Tolian Soran and the crash of the Enterprise-D saucer section. (Star Trek Generations)

Hawking from deleted scene

The Hawking's name was not seen clearly in the final cut of the film. However, a cut scene showed Lieutenant Commanders Geordi La Forge and Worf piloting the Hawking to retrieve Picard from the desert, and the shuttle was shown landed with its name clearly visible on the exterior. The miniature of the Hawking was new, but the full-sized shuttle was a redress of one of the shuttles built for Star Trek V: The Final Frontier (the other full-scale mock-up was converted into the type-6 shuttlecraft during TNG's fifth season). The shuttle was mostly unchanged from its Trek V appearance, except for updated signage and new windows on the side of the shuttle similar to those of the type-6. The registry of the Hawking is from the studio model. Template:Enterprise-DShuttles
