Haneek was a Skrreea woman chosen to represent a massive number of refugees that traversed the Bajoran wormhole in 2370. She belived that Bajor was the Skrreean's promised land.

At first the universal translator is unable to decipher her language. When it does, Sisko, learns that the Skreean Planet had been conquered by the Dominon. They wish to settle on Bajor. Sisko lets the rest of the refugees on the station until the Bajor Government decides their faith. Haneek also explains that the Skreean society if matriarchal and that men have no standing of suthority in their society. Haneek states that they are farmers, and could transform Bajor into a fertile planet and hasten the recovery from Cardassian Rule.

The government would refuse to allow the Skreeans to settle on Bajor, worring about the effect a large influx of people would have on the economy of Bajor. The Skreeans ultimately settle on Draylon II. (DS9: "Sanctuary")
