Template:Realworld The HMS Beagle was a British Royal Navy ship named after the type of dog of the same name.

During the mid-19th century, Charles Darwin traveled aboard the Beagle as it journeyed into the unknown. At the time of the Beagle journey, Darwin sailed without a single musket.

In 2379, Captain Picard reminded Dr. Crusher of that fact, as he observed the assignment of phasers to her medical personnel. (Star Trek Nemesis)

The reference to this vessel was cut from the theatrical version of the movie, but was included in the deleted scenes feature of the movies' original DVD release.
It is probable that this ship was also the namesake of the SS Beagle.
