The HMS Beagle was a English Royal Navy ship named after the type of dog of the same name.

During the mid-19th century, Charles Darwin traveled aboard the Beagle as it journeyed into the unknown. At the time of the Beagle journey, Darwin sailed without a single musket.

In 2379, Captain Picard reminded Dr. Crusher of that fact, as he observed the assignment of phasers to her medical personnel. (Star Trek: Nemesis)

The reference to this vessel was cut from the theatrical version of the movie, but was included in the deleted scenes feature of the movies' original DVD release.
