Ships in Star Trek operate on a set of 2 polar cordinates. Imagine 2, 360 degree protractors surrounding a ship. One is fixed horizontally while the other is fixed vertically to the ship. For example, if a heading of 156 mark 213 is given, that means the ship will face 156 degrees along the horizontal axis and 213 degrees vertically.

In early 2373, Captain Benjamin Sisko theorised that a possible reason for the Vorta commander Kilana's interest in a downed Jem'Hadar attack ship was that she wanted to recover its guidance system. (DS9: "The Ship")

The guidance system of the same Dominion ship, used by Captain Sisko and his crew to destroy a Dominion ketracel-white facility in 2374, was damaged during the facilities destruction. (DS9: "A Time to Stand")
