The Goren system was a planetary system whose inhabitants were undergoing a territorial dispute in 2375.
With the Federation Diplomatic Corps otherwise engaged in Dominion negotiations, Starfleet Command ordered Captain Jean-Luc Picard and the crew of the Enterprise-E to the Goren system to mediate the dispute, a directive which annoyed Captain Picard, as doing so would require putting off their archaeological expedition to Hanoran II. Picard ultimately chose to delay the mission in favor of taking the Enterprise to Sector 441 to investigate a mysterious malfunction experienced by Lieutenant Commander Data.
