Captain Gene Roddenberry was an officer for UESPA in the 22nd century and noted explorer.

In 2151, Roddenberry was noted for his work with UESPA on the dedication plaque of the Enterprise NX-01 along with Captain W.M. Jefferies. (Star Trek: Enterprise dedication plaque)

In 2160, as commanding officer of the Earth starship VK Velikan, Roddenberry would conduct a mission to explore strange new worlds. (TNG: "Up The Long Ladder")

Background

The name of this individual appeared on an okudagram that appeared on Picard's desk monitor, and was not verbally referenced on screen. A legible version of the okudagram would appear in the reference book, Star Trek: The Next Generation - The Continuing Mission.

Roddenberry was, of course, named after the creator of Star Trek, and leading member of the TOS production staff, Gene Roddenberry. The NX-01 plaque listed him as "G. Roddenberry", while a piece of background computer display art listed "Gene Roddenberry" in command of the Velikan. There are other persons also named for Roddenberry, indicating a possibility that they might be related. It has also been speculated that all of the 22nd century persons listed on the plaque were somehow extraordinarily long-lived, and are the same as those who were credited on the later 23rd and 24th century plaques.

Captain Roddenberry may be related to or may even be the same person as E.W. Roddenberry, who was active at the same time.
