A gas mask was a device used to prevent its wearer from inhaling dangerous gases present in the atmosphere.

The Ferengi invaders of the Enterprise (NX-01) in 2151 used gas masks while aboard that vessel, to prevent themselves from inhaling the gas they used to render the crew unconscious. (ENT: "Acquisition")
