Gamma Argus II was the inhabited second planet of the Gamma Argus system. This was the homeworld of the Gamma Argus II natives, a pre-warp-capable species. In 2364, full Prime Directive protections were in force for this planet.

In that year, the Federation starships USS Callisto, USS Enterprise-D, and USS Mustang, acting under orders from Starfleet, observed the cultural evolution of this planet. Furthermore, according to those orders, the ship's captains, Seth Goldberg, Jimmy Arakaki, and/or Jean-Luc Picard, had the discretion to determine the desirability of making contact with the natives. The captain would be acting as an agent on behalf of the United Federation of Planets. (TNG: "Conspiracy")
