Gamma Argus II was an inhabited planet. This was the homeworld for the Gamma Argus II natives, a pre-warp capable species. It was the second planet of the Gamma Argus planetary system.

In 2364, the planet was protected under the terms of the Prime Directive.

In that year, the Federation starships USS Callisto and USS Mustang, acting under orders from Starfleet, observed the cultural evolution of this planet. Within those orders, the ship’s captains, Seth Goldberg and Jimmy Arakaki, had the discretion to determine the viability of making contact with the natives. The parameters of their mission included a cultural evolution study and, at the discretion of either captain, an initial first contact. Under the terms of this scenario, either captain would be acting as an agent of the United Federation of Planets. (TNG: "Conspiracy")
